6/18/2023 0 Comments Does 316 stainless steel rust![]() ![]() If a person tests a weld several times during a certain period, “each time he takes another reading, it will show that he’s moving closer to the passivation level,” Collier said.Ĭollier added that this technology can help provide traceability. ![]() The tester can take a picture of the test points and upload those to the cloud as well. After this is set up, the Bluetooth®-connected testing device sends readings to the host site, which automatically populates a chart showing each passivation reading (ranging from -500 to +150), when those readings were taken, and at what interval (e.g., 25 readings, 8 inches apart). Online, the person doing the testing can enter the job number and grade of stainless. Now the tester automatically transmits the results to a secure site online. This wasn’t too arduous, but it opened the door for errors. Traditionally, the person doing the testing would need to record the results on a spreadsheet manually. The testing technology isn’t entirely new, but the way the system records the results is. “If I get a negative reading, it tells me there’s no chromium creeping over the weld,” Collier said, “and there may be something that’s blocking it, be it a burned discoloration or anything else.” ![]() A reading in the positive territory shows that chromium creep (passivation) has occurred and that the material is sealed and protected against oxidation and rust. From this measurement, the unit gives either a positive or negative reading. The tester basically measures the conductivity of two points, with current passing through a liquid in the sensor that helps make the measurement as accurate as possible. Some operations have been using the tester on actual welds, while other companies are using the tester to verify that a product (like the tank pictured here) is indeed made out of stainless steel. But as Collier explained, fabricators now are starting to use small testing units-one being the SURFOX ™ Smart Passivation Tester-to conduct passivation tests in-house. Shops typically send parts out to third parties for such testing. Passivation testing mitigates this problem. An operator may miss a spot or not clean it well enough to passivate it. The same could be said for pickling and even chemical cleaning. An operator may have used a wire brush, and the weld may look perfectly clean, but remaining traces of contamination still can cause problems. Still, human error can complicate matters. “If a product is cleaned properly, it has annealed itself, and that product can be used outside, even in a saltwater or salty air environment that material should not experience any discoloration or rusting,” Collier said. After the surface is cleaned, the chromium oxide layer should creep over and seal the weld within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the grade of stainless and specific welding application. They pickle it using a pickling paste they use abrasives and wire brushes or they clean it chemically using an acid- or salt-based solution and electricity. ![]() To achieve this passivation, fabricators clean stainless welds one of three ways. If the oxide layer hasn’t sealed the weld, you get oxidation and rust. If bluing or other debris left by the welding process remains, the chromium layer won’t creep and seal the weld. Stainless steel heals itself the same way.” But if you clean the cut and protect it, the cut will heal itself and not leave too much of a mark. If you let the cut get dirty, it will take a long time for the cut to heal, and it won’t heal very well. “In a sense, heals itself,” Collier said. He added that when stainless steel is cleaned properly, its chromium exhibits a kind of creeping action. has burned off a layer of chromium oxide, the element that prevents stainless steel from rusting.” That’s cosmetic, but here’s something even worse. “Stainless does not react well to a lot of heat,” he said, “so when you’re welding thin material, even TIG welding, you get a lot of bluing and discoloration of the stainless. That’s according to Chester Collier, senior vice president of global distribution at Windsor, Conn.-based Walter Surface Technologies. This is where weld passivation testing can help, and here technology has made it practical for fabricators to conduct such testing in-house. It all had to do with what happened to the stainless’s chromium oxide layer during and especially after welding. A supervisor talks to the welders: Didn’t they clean it properly? The welder says he certainly did-he made sure to grind and polish his work completely, with no trace of blue near the weld. Fabricators who specialize in stainless steel may know this story: A customer calls and complains of rust. ![]()

![]() ![]() In addition to future-SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-director Jonathan Demme (boyfriend to the stoned hillbilly chick) and genre regular/70s casualty Rainbeaux Smith (whose part seems to be pretty much cut from the MST version she’s the model, upset in the back of the police car when the headless body is found), I also want to point out a couple other actors: (Also, a shout-out to the “what is happening here?” old couple in the lemon grove). Ted Nelson is amazing and the “crackers” scene is stunning in its WTF-ery. The movie itself is pretty terrible, but enjoyably so. Baker would go on to be nominated for 12 Oscars, winning 7 of those, including An American Werewolf in London and Ed Wood. This is easily the goriest film they ever riffed on MST3k, and this is the EDITED version! I can see how some of the goings-ons in here (the head in the pond, the meltiness, etc.) could bother some people, but that is really just a testament to the quality of Rick Baker’s special effects work. 1970s horror films (of all qualities) are a particular love of mine, and THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN does not disappoint in the areas of ickiness and goofiness. THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN is a movie that is right in my wheelhouse, I was excited when it premiered. So for me, the Host Segments take a back seat to the movie and the riffing in this episode. Crow as a pompous jerk (like in HS#2) is usually good for a laugh or a least a good line or two. Sure, there’s some wry humor, and even though I know where they are coming from in regards to the writing (a bit resentful, sure, but bitter? Not so much…), it doesn’t exactly lead to a laugh riot. I don’t find them to be all that funny, not really. This is another really great Season 7 episode (haters need to stop hatin’ on this season!) but I am going to agree with the minority on the quality of the Host Segments.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Amir Shevat, who was heading developer platforms at Twitter at the time, said that the company is exploring building some kind of app store.īut all that came crashing down after Musk took over the company. In 2022, it launched Twitter Toolbox, a way to showcase and promote third-party apps. In 2020, it launched a new API with multiple access levels to cater to many developer use cases. In the last few years, the social media company started rebuilding trust with developers. But given how Musk has handled the company, there is not much hope for a full release. The company shut down Tweetdeck for Mac last year and has been testing a new web version with a select number of users. One of the classic examples of Twitter ignoring non-native clients is Tweetdeck, a company that it acquired in 2011. Two years later, it curtailed access to its firehose data by terminating agreements with partners. The company started restricting third-party Twitter clients in 2012. Twitter has had a long history of disregarding developers contributing to the ecosystem. not valuing developers that give users an option to experience the platform in different ways. Twitterrific has contributed to things like the bird logo, character count and conversations (replies). Tweetie, an app Twitter acquired in 2010, was behind the pull to refresh the timeline feature that everyone is familiar with. Third-party clients have added so much to Twitter as a platform. While Twitter hasn’t given an explanation for this move, it could be to exert control over users and force them to use its own clients. This funeral practice, present in many parts of the world, was documented in Ireland and Scotland during the Middle Ages. It is however difficult to determine the original meaning of bean sí, because of the mixture of pagan and Christian concepts in medieval texts. Later this term took the meaning of a “hill or mound” which gives access to the kingdom of the gods, fairies and death.
